Calgary, Alberta – August 21, 2024 – Hemp Carbon Standard Inc. (“HCS”) is delighted to announce that Fresh Hemp Foods Ltd., owner of Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods and a leading player in the hemp food industry, has purchased 400 HCS, 2023 vintage, carbon credits. These credits will be utilized by Fresh Hemp Foods for Beyond Value Chain Mitigation, showcasing their commitment to sustainability and regenerative agriculture.
The HCS carbon credits acquired by Fresh Hemp Foods pertain to Canadian farms that supply a portion of their hemp crops to Fresh Hemp Foods and Manitoba Harvest. These farms have embraced the HCS methodology, which is dedicated to promoting regenerative agricultural practices and harnessing the carbon sequestration capabilities of industrial hemp.
“We are thrilled to support Fresh Hemp Foods in giving back to their grower community and furthering their sustainability journey,” said Tim de Rosen, CEO at Hemp Carbon Standard. “Their purchase of HCS carbon credits highlights their proactive approach to mitigating climate impact and underscores the importance of regenerative agriculture in the hemp industry.”
HCS is 50.1% owned by Hempalta Corp. (TSX-V:HEMP) and is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. The HCS methodology is designed to quantify and certify the carbon sequestration achieved through the cultivation of industrial hemp, providing a robust framework for generating high-quality carbon credits.
“For over 25 years, Manitoba Harvest and Fresh Hemp Foods have been championing hemp as one of the world’s most sustainable superfoods,” said Jared Simon, President of Fresh Hemp Foods and Manitoba Harvest. “Our dedicated grower community allows us to cultivate high quality hemp while leaving the earth better than we found it. We’re proud to give back by supporting the Hemp Carbon Standard.”
The HCS credits will support the continued adoption of regenerative agricultural practices among hemp farmers, enhancing soil health, biodiversity, and long-term carbon sequestration. This initiative represents a significant step forward in the fight against climate change and the promotion of sustainable agriculture.
